We ask for what we need to take good care of your dog, and nothing else. We don’t sell your information, we don’t run ads, and we don’t share your details with anyone who isn’t part of caring for your dog. This page explains exactly what that means.
Who we are
Better Bark Bureau (“the Bureau,” “we”) is a private pet-care concierge serving the Southern Marin Service Area. We connect households with vetted, independent pet-care professionals. You can reach us any time at hello@betterbarkbureau.com.
What we collect
- What you tell us about your household and your dog. Your name, neighborhood, phone number, and how you heard about us; your dog’s name, breed, age, weight, energy level, temperament, any behavior or health notes, and your vet clinic if you choose to share it.
- The care you need. Services, frequency, preferred days and times, and your start date.
- How a walker gets in. On the questionnaire we ask only the type of access (lockbox, smart lock, hidden key, or someone home), never an actual code. If you book, any access instructions you provide are stored separately and are visible only to the professional with an active booking for your dog.
- Booking and visit records. Dates, times, services, prices, and the photo and note sent after each visit.
- Payment details, handled by Stripe, not by us. Card numbers are entered directly into Stripe’s secure fields and never touch our servers. We keep only what Stripe returns: a payment reference, the amount, and the last four digits.
- Basic technical data. Standard server logs and error reports that help us keep the site working and secure.
Why we use it
- To match your household with a suitable independent professional.
- To schedule visits, send reminders, and deliver walk photos and notes.
- To take payment for the care you book, and issue refunds or credits.
- To respond when you contact your Care Coordinator.
- To keep records we’re required to keep, and to prevent misuse.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Who we share it with
- Your matched professional. They receive what they need to care for your dog well: your name and contact number, your dog’s details and quirks, the schedule, and (once you have an active booking) your access instructions.
- Service providers who run parts of the product for us: Stripe (payments), Twilio (text messages), Supabase and Vercel (hosting and database), Resend (email receipts), and error-monitoring tools. They may only use your information to provide their service to us.
- When the law requires it, or to protect someone’s safety, for example, sharing what a veterinarian needs in an emergency.
Text messages
When you give us your phone number, you’re agreeing that we may text you about your inquiry and your bookings: a Coordinator’s recommendation, a booking request, a day-of reminder, a cancellation. Reply STOP to any message to stop receiving them. Message and data rates may apply.
How long we keep it
We keep your household and booking records for as long as you’re a client and for a reasonable period afterward, so we can honor refunds, answer questions, and meet tax and record-keeping obligations. Professionals’ vetting records (insurance, licenses, and certifications) are retained for at least three years. When we no longer need something, we delete it.
Your choices, and your California rights
You can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Just email us. If you’re a California resident, the CCPA gives you the right to know what personal information we collect and why, request deletion or correction, and not be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We don’t sell personal information, so there’s nothing to opt out of on that front.
To make a request, email hello@betterbarkbureau.com. We may need to verify your identity first, and we’ll respond within the timeframes the law requires. Note that some records (completed bookings and payment history) we’re required to keep even after a deletion request.
Cookies
We use the minimum necessary: a secure cookie that keeps you signed in if you have an account, and basic analytics that tell us which pages people use. No advertising trackers.
Security
Information is encrypted in transit, access is limited to the people who need it, and sensitive details like access instructions are restricted to the professional actively caring for your dog. No system is perfect, but we take this seriously and design for it.
Children
The Bureau is for adults. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Changes
If we make a meaningful change to this page, we’ll update the date at the top and, when it matters, tell you directly. See also our Terms.
